Greetings and welcome to St. Bartís Sunday School program.

Sunday School Program

Our Sunday morning classes are age-based:

Explorers: Pre-K/K/First Grade

Seekers: Second/Third/Fourth Grades

Trailblazers: Fifth/Sixth/Seventh Grades

Sunday School begins at the same time as worship in the sanctuary during the 10am service during the school year. Families are encouraged to arrive about 9:55 to drop off their children in the Sunday School wing. If you are new, please take a minute to introduce your family to the teachers in the classroom or Kerry Mansir, the coordinator, and make sure to let someone know about any food allergies or other concerns. Sunday School teachers will bring the kids into the sanctuary at the Peace so that all can participate in the Eucharist. Kids are encouraged to sit up front with their teachers so that they are able to see and experience more fully what is happening at the table. However, if you would like to take communion with your child(ren), you are most welcome to join them up front! After the kids have taken communion, they return to the classrooms to finish up projects and clean up. Please meet your kids in the classroom after announcements; they will be anxious to join you for the delightful snacks at coffee hour!

Our Sunday School program is primarily lectionary based, divided into six seasons:

Creation, Advent/Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost.

The Bible stories told in class will be the same stories heard in church with the hope that intergenerational insights might be shared on the way home! In the classroom, we pray and sing and listen and discuss, and we always end with an opportunity for the kids to be creative with a project or craft that reinforces the story. Sunday School meets every Sunday during the school year with the exception of Easter when we all gather together in church.

We offer daycare, year round, for children 4 years old and younger during the 10 am Sunday service (9 am during the summer). The daycare room is located in the Sunday School wing.

Programs for older youth

If you are interested in programs for our older youths--eighth grade and high school, please contact someone on our Education Committee. We are in the process of creating something new, and St. Bartís youth often participate in the excellent programming provided by First Parish.

Other Family programming

We also offer Friday Night Family Worship once per liturgical season. These are opportunities for more experiential worship crafted with children in mind, and they provide a chance to talk to kids more in depth about the liturgy and sacraments of our church. They are followed with a potluck meal. Please see the St. Bartís calendar for upcoming family worship opportunities.

Other activities in which St. Bartís families are involved:

Blessing of the Animals (in honor of St. Francis)

Maine Marathon Water Stop

Christmas Fair Kids Crafts

Christmas Eve Pageant

Spring service project . . . just to name a few.

Your participation, suggestions and contributions are greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact Kerry Mansir, our Education coordinator, or members of the Education Committee.
